Innovative programs to Keep Families Together

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Veterinary services are in high demand and the industry is growing rapidly. Simultaneously, Columbus has a critical shortage of skilled veterinary workers, driving costs and increasing barriers. The profession is more than 90% white women. Columbus veterinary clinics have more than 200 vacancies for veterinary support staff right now and this program will help prepare a diverse workforce for those opportunities. Students will benefit from hands-on learning in our clinic while helping the pets who need it most.

LOW-COST CLINIC

Columbus completely lacks low-cost options for sick and injured animals, leaving thousands of pets untreated and suffering. Our very low-cost, high quality services will treat sick and injured animals as well as keep healthy pets well with preventative care. Social workers and wrap around services will ensure families have access to the care they need.

PET FOOD WAREHOUSE

Pets are family. When families battle food insecurity, it’s common for people to prioritize food for their pets over themselves — particularly senior citizens. By offering essential, nutritious pet food to any family in need, we’re not only providing for pets, but also ensuring human food is enjoyed by the people in the household. That’s healthier for everyone, pets and people alike. The Essential Care Center is equipped to offer drive-thru service for clients and accept semi-truck loads of donated food.

The Essential Campaign

Please consider making a gift toward the $6 million Essential Campaign to help complete the Columbus Humane Essential Care Center! Your support is essential.

We would like to recognize the trailblazers who have stepped up to dramatically increase access to quality veterinary care and nutritious pet food for our neighbors. Our tremendous gratitude expressed to Alterra Real Estate Advisors, specifically Brad Kitchen and Alisa Argust, for the purchase of this building and making our dreams come true.

Our sincerest gratitude expressed to our friends of the Essential Campaign. Below are our generous supporters who have gone above and beyond for our community with a donation of $25,000 or higher:

1+1=3 Campaign | MATCH MET!

The Wolfe Associates Fund challenged other community leaders to support this essential need. They made a $500,000 gift and if we received another $500,000, they would donate an additional $500,000.

That’s how to make 1+1=3! And guess what?! WE MET OUR MATCH!

Thanks to all who donated, that means $1.5M toward providing essential pet food assistance, workforce development and veterinary care to those in our community.
