Safe Haven for Pets

The Safe Haven for Pets (Safe Haven) program was created in 2006 to assist the pets of the victims of domestic violence. Our program provides veterinary care, food and shelter to an average of 50 animals annually, at no cost. The average length of stay for a Safe Haven pet is far longer than that of our adoptable animals. We receive referrals from LSS CHOICES, the Center for Family Safety and Healing, Columbus Police Department as well as other social service organizations, hospitals and churches.

I really do appreciate everything that was done for me so that I could get my fur babies back.

Mason & Oliver love their new little human brother a lot so things are working out nicely thanks to [Safe Haven for Pets]. I'm extremely grateful for everything… [Now] I'm trying to look at the future and not look back at the past. Thank you.

Columbus Humane Safe Haven Program

If you are in need of the Safe Haven for Pets program, please call (614) 980-2032, to speak with one of our Safe Haven coordinators and set up an appointment. We provide housing, food and veterinary care for animals, free of charge, in thirty day increments.

Basic Requirements for Program Participation

Your pet should be behaviorally and medically healthy. We can work with many health and behavior challenges, but overall your pet should be able to be around new people and animals, and be able to adjust to a new environment. We require dogs and cats to be spayed or neutered upon arrival and we offer that service free of charge to you. We cannot house puppies and kittens in this program due to health and behavior risks.

Please know the Safe Haven phone is monitored from 9AM to 5PM daily, please leave us a message and we will return your call as soon as possible. If your need falls outside of this timeframe, we will return your message ASAP.
