Case Update: 18 Golden Retrievers Find A Happy Ending

You may remember hearing about a recent animal cruelty case involving 21 pets removed from a home in New Albany in December last year. Among the 21 was Sullivan (formerly known as Octane) and 17 other Golden Retrievers. All pets should live free of suffering and be treated as valued members of loved families. Instead, these dogs were living in deplorable conditions. Overcrowded and filthy, it was shocking even to Columbus Humane agents. At Columbus Humane, we care deeply about pets. But we also care deeply about people. It’s difficult to see anyone living in these conditions and we’re glad to have put an end to it.

Now the goldens are off living their best lives. Read on to see how they are doing with their new families.

Sullivan, FKA Octane

His new dad reports great news:

“Words can’t quite explain how happy our little family is with the addition of Octane (we have renamed him Sullivan/Sully). He immediately became a source of such joy and happiness for us. After an understandably anxious first night, it’s been incredible to watch his growth just over the last week. He is sooooo affectionate towards people, and my goodness does he like to play! And cuddle! I swear it’s as if he has already been mostly trained. Our old guy Wes has been a great mentor for our new pup. He’s helped with going potty, learning how to sit and stay, etc. He hasn’t done any of the “puppy” things I expected to happen (destroying stuff, accidents in the house, etc). He’s just…..so amazing. We love him so much and can’t wait to watch him keep growing and evolving. He’s my baby boy!!! I’m so grateful for everyone at Columbus Humane for helping me find my best friend. You guys do incredible work and I have so much respect for you all.”

Chloe, FKA Hart

She is settling in well to her new home with a family dedicated to her success. Read what they had to say about their new best friend!

“She can still be very timid at times especially around men but we are slowly getting through it. She loves to play with her fur sister Izzy and get out every single toy there is lol, she can now sit, shake, lay and sit pretty on command. Her first checkup at the vet went really well, double ear infection but we’re getting it treated. We are so blessed to be able to add her to our family and give her an amazing life. We can’t thank you guys enough!”

Rory

She is settling in well with an amazing mama. Read what she had to say about her new best friend below.

“Rory has been absolutely amazing. Adjusting SO well, growing, and loving life. She has met lots of dog-friends and usually gets the zoomies at around 7pm every night (lol). She is snuggly and loves to meet new people. I love coming home and seeing how excited she is to greet me! She knows how to sit, lay down, "wait", shake, and play fetch! I can't wait to continue to see her personality come out more and more. Not to be dramatic, but I think she might be the best thing to happen to me - and the clues are telling me she feels the same. Thanks again for all you have done to let me have my lil 4 legged bestie!”

Gilmore, FKA Mudbud

He’s doing fantastic in his new home with his new family.

“Mudbud - now named Gilmore - is doing wonderfully. His first vet visit went well - he was nervous, of course, but he was brave too! He’s getting more confident every day. He’s getting along great with his big brother, Graham - they wrestle together daily, usually in the mornings and evenings. He’s slowly getting better walking on his leash, too. The biggest thing he’s learned from Graham so far is that snuggles are awesome and should always be insisted on. We’re so lucky to get to love him.”

Because of generous supporters to Columbus Humane, the goldens received the best care and treatment during their stay and were matched with great families to start new adventures with. Thank you for Making Columbus Humane and supporting our lifesaving mission.
