Planned Giving with Columbus Humane
Sarah Eagleson is the type of person who thinks long term. True in her professional life as well as in her charitable contributions, she tries to maximize resources to accomplish her goals. One of those goals includes giving back to her community. Sarah is a lifelong advocate for pets, passionate about animal welfare and a dear friend to Columbus Humane.
Sarah was raised in Upper Arlington by a gracious family – learning lessons about charitable giving through her parents’ philanthropy to the Columbus Museum of Art, United Way and myriad social services organizations. Since her early childhood, Sarah loved to take care of animals – particularly those in need of help. As she got older – while taking home what turned out to be 12 dogs over the years from Columbus Humane and its predecessors – she became more involved.
Starting as a volunteer and donating when she could, Sarah transitioned to sponsoring events to help raise awareness and dollars through The Eagleson Group, Keller Williams Classic Properties, and followed with contributing her administrative and fundraising abilities to support it. Today, she has served three terms on the Board of Trustees and impacted the organization greatly.
“Animals change people’s lives for the better,” Sarah said. Her time on the Board was rooted in belief in what Columbus Humane does, specifically programs like Safe Haven. When deciding how to leave a legacy and join the 1883 Circle – her husband Bill noted how important it was to Columbus Humane – in fact any charitable organization – to have income that is both consistent and reliable. Sarah set up her own charitable legacy that will continue after she can no longer donate personally. “The future is hard to plan for, so there’s value in knowing what to expect. It is important to leave as much as you can. We want someone who can steward our resources respectfully, so we may look down from heaven with confidence,” Sarah explained.
She encourages everyone to establish their own charitable legacies so Columbus Humane can remain steadfast in our community for another 140 years, serving pets and their people in need.
