(January 17, 2020) — Columbus Humane is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the suspected poisoning of a dog in North Linden.
The Case:
A Bull Terrier was found dead Friday Morning, January 10th by the owner in the North Linden area of Columbus. The dog reported to be possibly poisoned with rat poison just prior to death. The dog was turned over to Columbus Humane to conduct a necropsy of the deceased. Results from the necropsy have not been determined at this time.
Columbus Humane is looking for any witnesses to this reported incident. Information leading to the arrest of the person responsible will be awarded with $5,000. Animal Cruelty:
For anyone who believes their dog is showing signs of poisoning, take the animal to the nearest emergency vet immediately and contact Columbus Humane to report suspected cruelty. Symptoms of poisoning in dogs can vary depending on the type of poison they’ve encountered. These signs can range from vomiting to breathing difficulties to lethargy. Any sudden and significant changes in an animal’s health or behavior should be addressed with a veterinary professional immediately. Many rodenticides contain an anticoagulant that will result in an inability to clot blood and if untreated will result in fatal hemorrhage, approximately 48-72 hours after consumption.
Columbus Humane is a non-profit organization and the lead law enforcement agency investigating animal cruelty, abuse and neglect within Franklin County. Humane Agents make approximately 6,000 visits investigating animal cruelty each year with over a 90 percent conviction rate.
